Commissioners Court Proclaims White Cane Day to call Awareness to Lions Club Contributions to Eyesight Programs

Hays County Courthouse, San Marcos, TX – The Hays County Commissioners Court has proclaimed October 15, 2018, as White Cane Day in Hays County.

In 1930 a Lions Club in Illinois began the practice of funding white canes so persons with impaired eyesight could walk more safely and be seen more easily. Local Lions Clubs today such as the San Marcos Lions Club use donations such as those during White Cane Day to fund eye exams and eyeglasses for those in need in the community, as well as leader-dog programs and international sight programs.
