CAHFC Funds 3 Local NonProfits

Hays County Commissioners Court Presents CAHFC Checks to 3 Non-Profits

Hays County Courthouse, San Marcos, TX – At its December 4 meeting the Hays County Commissioners Court presented checks from the Capital Area Housing Finance Corporation (CAHFC) to three non-profit organizations that serve Hays County – the Hays County Food Bank, Hays County Child Protective Board, and the Southside Community Center.

Precinct 2 Commissioner Mark Jones represents Hays County on the corporation’s board of directors and nominated the three agencies, which were approved by the full board. The Food Bank and Child Protective Board received $25,000 each, and the Community Center received $30,000.

“These donations are going to very worthy organizations,” Jones said. “The Hays County Food Bank is expanding its operations due to population growth and the building fund will get a nice boost, the Child Protective Board can use the funds for a larger Rainbow Room, which provides emergency resources for CPS workers and the children they serve, and the Community Center has helped individuals and families in need in San Marcos in many ways and is one of the longest-serving organizations in our area.”

The CAHFC assists in meeting the housing needs of workforce families in nine counties and the City of San Marcos. Among its programs are down-payment assistance for first-time home buyers, and financing of multi-family communities to provide below-market-rate rents for low-to-moderate-income families. The CAHFC is funded by fees and receives no governmental funding. It has the authority to make charitable contributions when its revenues make that feasible.
