Sheriff, Law Enforcement Association Present ‘No-shave November’ Check to American Cancer Society at Commissioners Court

Hays County Courthouse, San Marcos, TX – Hays County Sheriff Gary Cutler and Cpl. Michael Kirkwood, president of the Hays County Law Enforcement Association, presented a $6,525 check to the American Cancer Society at Tuesday’s Commissioners Court.

The money was raised during “No-shave November” by Corrections and Law Enforcement staff at the Sheriff’s Office, who contributed $25 each to forego shaving, and another $25 to participate in December – the event is so popular that the sheriff authorized it to continue another month.

Kirkwood, who organized the event, said that those participating raised some $1,500 more than in 2017.

“There’s probably no one in this room who hasn’t been affected by cancer in some shape or form,” Cutler said. “We want to do our part to fight this terrible disease.”

“No-shave November” encourages those who can to forego shaving and hair-grooming and help fight cancer by donating what they would typically spend on haircuts and grooming items. While the Sheriff’s Office employees must continue to have groomed hair, authorization to have facial hair makes it a popular fundraiser.
