Hays County COVID-19 Update August 26

Hays County Local Health Department today reports one (1) new COVID-related fatality, a woman from San Marcos in her 80s who was hospitalized at the time of her death.

Epidemiologist Eric Schneider also reports 14 new lab-confirmed COVID-19 cases, four (4) new hospitalizations, four (4) hospital discharges and 27 additional recoveries.

The County’s total of lab-confirmed cases is 5,322; of those, 2,379 are considered active. The number of individuals considered recovered is 2,897. The number of negative tests is 23,782. Schneider is awaiting results on 29 tests.

Hays County has had 142 total hospitalizations and 17 people are currently hospitalized. Some patients are in hospitals outside Hays County but are included in our numbers if they reside here. Likewise, an individual from another county who is in a local hospital would be accounted for in their county of residence.

NOTE: Free COVID-19 testing through the Texas Division of Emergency Management is taking place through August 29 at two locations simultaneously: San Marcos High School and the Hays CISD Performing Arts Center in Kyle. Testing will take place between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. at both sites. For more information, see this Facebook event.

Information about new permanent test sites operated by the county and its partners at Premiere ER and CommuniCare, will be shared once the details are finalized.
