Hays County Local Health Department today reports 21 new lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19. Epidemiologist Eric Schneider also reports three new hospitalizations, two hospital discharges and 110 additional recoveries.
The total number of lab-confirmed cases is 5,446 with 2,028 of those considered active. The number of individuals considered recovered is 3,368. The number of negative tests is 24,674. Schneider is awaiting results on 31 tests.
“Our active numbers are declining as more health department staff are able to clear older cases,” Schneider said. “We are also seeing relatively low numbers of new cases. But we’re not out of the woods yet.”
He added that Hays County residents wearing masks, washing hands and staying distanced is helping.
Hays County has had 151 total hospitalizations and 12 people are currently hospitalized. Some patients are in hospitals outside Hays County but are included in our numbers if they reside here. Likewise, an individual from another county who is in a local hospital would be accounted for in their county of residence.
Schneider said the health department’s update on Tuesday, Sept. 8, will also include results from Saturday, Sunday and Monday, which is Labor Day. Hays County offices are closed that day in observation of the holiday.
