Hays County Local Health Department today reports one new COVID-related fatality since the September 4 update, a San Marcos woman in her 60s. Epidemiologist Eric Schneider also reports 55 new lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 along with five new hospitalizations, three hospital discharges and 53 additional recoveries.

The total number of lab-confirmed cases is 5,526 with 1,988 of those considered active. The number of individuals considered recovered is 3,487. The number of negative tests is 24,938. Schneider is awaiting results on 41 tests.

Hays County has had 158 total hospitalizations and 16 people are currently hospitalized. Some patients are in hospitals outside Hays County but are included in our numbers if they reside here. Likewise, an individual from another county who is in a local hospital would be accounted for in their county of residence.

“We continue to encourage all Hays County residents to practice those simple but effective methods for slowing the spread including hand washing, wearing a mask and staying distanced from others,” Schneider said.
