Calendar of Events for Juneteenth Celebration 2021

 On June 1, the Hays County Commissioners Court proclaimed the 19th day of June 2021 as Juneteenth. Other proclamation readings will occur in city council meetings in Buda, Dripping Springs, Kyle and Wimberley.

Below are several events happening around Hays County in celebration of Juneteenth.

June 4, 2021

Drive-thru Fish Fry Fund Raiser sponsored the San Marcos Juneteenth Foundation, Inc. 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. at Dunbar Park, 801 Martin Luther King Dr., San Marcos; Dunbar Park, from 11 a.m.-4 p.m.; Lunch/dinner is a $10 donation by pre-purchase ticket or cash.

June 5, 12, 19, 26, 2021

Voters Registration Drive On Saturdays with a focus on recently graduated high school seniors. Eligible citizens in Hays County can stop at the voters registration booth to register to complete a voter registration form with a deputy voter registrar from 12:00 noon until 4 p.m. Locations include Wonder World Park, 1000 Prospect St., San Marcos; San Marcos Plaza Park, 401 East Hopkins St., San Marcos Texas. Kyle Market Day at Gregg Clarke Park, 1231-1301 W. Center St., Kyle; 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. Local vendors, arts & crafts, farm to market items, live music and MORE! Great outdoor event for the whole family.

June 17, 2021

“Then and Now: Illuminating Black Voices in the Historic Dunbar Community” hosted by The ACCEYSS Network, 174 S Guadalupe Street, Suite 105, San Marcos; Space for 20-30 people. Will also be live streamed on Facebook, 6:30-8:30 p.m.

June 18, 2021

City of Kyle Peace and Progress Panel; Juneteenth Discussion – 7 p.m. start time. Join community leaders for the Dialogue for Peace and Progress 2021 – Celebrating Juneteenth; Kyle City Councilmember Dex Ellison will be moderating a group of panelists discussing issues from a multitude of perspectives with culturally significant and nationally recognized historical events as the backdrop. Kyle City Hall, 100 W. Center St., also on Kyle Spectrum Channel 10, Kyle’s YouTube channel, or City of Kyle Facebook page.

Dripping Springs Community – Empowering Positive Change will sponsor a virtual art show that highlights art pieces from a variety of genre with a Juneteenth theme.   • Juneteenth Celebration

City of Buda 2nd Annual Juneteenth Celebration 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Come and Celebrate with Music, Activities, Food; Buda City Park Pavilion, 204 San Antonio St, Buda.

  • Juneteenth Unity Walk

Come together at the intersection of LBJ and Martin Luther King, Jr  in San Marcos at the LBJ MLK Crossroad Memorial 9 a.m. to begin the walk that will “Celebrate the Juneteenth Holiday”. With family, friends, and neighbors, all will walk a designated route that will end at Dunbar Park, 801 Martin Luther King Dr., San Marcos; Walk begins at 9:30 a.m.

  • “Juneteenth Celebration” Elementary School Students Art Display

Elementary students from selected schools in  San Marcos CISD will have art pieces displayed at the Cephas House, 213 Martin Luther King Dr., San Marcos; Sponsored by local Soulful Creations Tx.; Viewing times: 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.

  • Juneteenth Celebration at Dunbar Recreation Center

Dunbar Heritage Association will also host a traditional Juneteenth Celebration from 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. at the Dunbar Recreation Center featuring a gospel concert, games, speakers, live soul music, vendors, food trucks, a virtual 5K Fundraiser and more!” Dunbar Recreation Center, 801 Martin Luther King Dr., San Marcos; For details see https://www.facebook.com/dunbarheritage/

  • Re-opening of Calaboose Museum

  • San Marcos Juneteenth Foundation Inc. Charity BBQ Cook-off

It’s back! The popular Charity BBQ Cook-off to celebrate the Juneteenth Holiday. From 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., the public can enjoy, open space with all day music, a children’s place section with activities, BBQ taste test line-up, and vendors. Wimberley’s Voices at the Table Discussion: History of Juneteenth 

“Voices at the Table” is a monthly Wimberley Zoom panel discussion curated by moderator, Sandra Organ Solís, and produced by Dr. Carlos Solís. This last of a six-month series will have a panel to discuss Juneteenth, the day set aside to celebrate the emancipation of slaves.
