Wildfire Risk This Week, Feb. 14-16

WILDFIRE RISK THIS WEEK: A Red Flag Warning has been issued for our area, and is in effect from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. CST 2/14/23. Very dry air will begin to filter into the region late tomorrow morning. Said dry air will combine with gusty west to southwest winds and winter-cured fuels to drive critical fire weather conditions.
The National Weather Service is showing elevated fire risk over the next few days. We have a chance for light showers on 2/13 but winds may be strong. Periods of fire weather concerns will exist Tuesday through Thursday, with a possible high fire danger Tuesday afternoon across the Edwards Plateau and Rio Grande. Recent high winds have dried out vegetation and grasses, making them ripe for catching fire.
IMPORTANT: IF YOU HAVE BEEN BURNING BRUSH (E.G. FROM THE ICE STORM), BE SURE ALL SIGNS OF FIRE ARE EXTINGUISHED COMPLETELY.
