Hays County Transportation Plan Update – 2020/2021
Hays County is updating its Transportation Plan to identify safety improvements, improve regional connections and mobility, and plan for future growth and development over the next two decades. This planning document will serve as a tool to help implement projects, preserve right-of-way, and collaborate with regional partners to guide our future transportation landscape. The County’s current Transportation Plan was originally completed in 2013 and last amended in 2016. The updated plan will identify safety improvements, improve regional connections and mobility, and plan for expected growth and development over the next two decades.
In the fall of 2020, Hays County gathered public feedback about transportation planning and what residents wanted to see in the future. Through a survey and virtual open house, the County received input from a cross section of residents. The County has since prepared a Draft Transportation Plan and is hosting a second Virtual Open House to share the recommendations for community review and feedback.
The Virtual Open House materials, including a video presentation, plan map, list of project recommendations, and a survey, are on the project webpage and available through February 7, 2021.

Public involvement will play an important role in the development of the Hays County Transportation Plan. The draft recommendations consider public input, stakeholder feedback and technical analysis. Hays County is asking for community feedback before refining and presenting the final plan to the Commissioners Court for consideration.
The County is currently hosting a virtual open house to share the draft plan. Virtual open house materials are available on the project web page and include a video presentation and an online survey. The Virtual Open House Takes Place: January 7-February 7, 2021 at www.haystransportationplan.com.
“The Hays County Transportation Plan will serve as a tool to help implement projects, preserve right-of-way, and collaborate with regional partners to guide the County’s future transportation landscape,” said Hays County Commissioner Mark Jones, Pct. 2.
The County recognizes that travel has been impacted by the COVID–19 pandemic and asks that respondents give their opinions based on their travel experience over the last year.
