‘Because I Count’ ‘Porque Yo Cuento’ Online Art Contest

Hays County Courthouse, San Marcos, TX (April 3, 2020) – Sirena, the Children’s Mermaid, wants to make sure everyone in Hays County is counted during the 2020 Census. She’s inviting children ages 3-12 from all over Hays County to join her Census-themed, online art contest.

Art can be submitted by taking a picture of it and uploading it to:

Sirena: The Children’s Mermaid Facebook Page Because I Count Event at  https://www.facebook.com/events/2316260778670187/ or with a parent’s permission text it to 512-757-0022 (a Hays County phone).

The Census deadline has been extended! But it is important that households fill out their Census form – or complete it online or by phone – as soon as they have time. It only takes a few minutes. Information and assistance in thirteen languages is available, including English and Spanish.

Although children of any age can submit artwork, only those ages 3-12 will have their work judged (in three different age categories) and be eligible for cash, gift cards and fun prizes!

The Census does not ask for your residency status or a Social Security Number. The information is confidential and is not shared with other government agencies and is not releasable for 72 years! More information is at www.2020Census.gov.  There is also a 24-hour, multi-language hotline to answer your Census questions: 2-1-1.

Hays County Census Coordinator Jessica Mejia is available to answer any questions at Jessica.Mejia@co.hays.tx.us.
