Randall Wade Vetter

Jan. 24, 1972 – Aug. 7, 2000

Hays County proudly opened the Randall Wade Vetter Park on Nov. 1, 2003, in honor of Department of Public Safety Trooper Randall Wade Vetter, who was killed in the line of duty on nearby Yarrington Road on Aug. 7, 2000.

Trooper Vetter was a graduate of Canyon High School in New Braunfels and had been a State Trooper for six years.

The park includes 18 riverfront acres of trees, natural settings and approximately a quarter mile of Blanco River access. It is downstream from and adjacent to Dudley Johnson Park in what is known as the Five Mile Dam Park Complex. Vetter Park has its own parking lot, seven BBQ grills with picnic tables shaded by trees or structures and an innovative trail of pervious concrete that is ADA-compliant. It also has its own parking lot.
