Internship and Law Clerk Positions

The Hays County Criminal District Attorney’s Office has unpaid internship and law clerk positions available for college and law school students, respectively.  The positions are limited and subject to approval.

College interns work closely with paralegals and/or victim services to contact victims/witnesses, to organize case files, to prepare trial notebooks and other documents, and otherwise to help with various administrative tasks.

Law clerks are assigned to both civil and criminal attorneys to draft and edit charging documents, pleadings and subpoenas and to perform various legal or administrative tasks.  Proficiency in legal research is a prerequisite.  Law Clerks with third year Bar Cards who are deemed qualified may participate in hearings and trials.

All interns and law clerks will be exposed to the courtroom.

A criminal background check is required of all applicants. A person with a final felony conviction is not eligible for an internship. All other matters will be considered on a case by case basis.
