The County Clerk’s Office includes two divisions – Records and Courts – both led by the elected County Clerk. The staff provides a number of services for the residents of Hays County, including the recording and maintenance of all Commissioners Court minutes, Official Public Records, and County Court Records.

County Clerk fee information is available as a PDF (Portable Document Format) and requires the free Adobe Acrobat Reader to be installed.

Plat map printing and issuance of writs are available ONLY at the San Marcos office, located inside the Government Center. All other services are available at open substation locations.

The Hays County Clerk’s Office received the Five Star Vital Registration Award from the Texas Department of Health, State Health Services Vital Statistics Section. This award is given annually. Award criteria include: 

  • TxEVER training – attending annual and bi-Annual conferences as well as monthly conferences; 
  • Customer Service – registering 96% of birth and death records within one business day; 
  • Self-Assessment Survey –Submitted a completed local registrar self-assessment survey provided by the Vital Statistics Section electronically no later than April 30, 2022 [HSC 191.022 (g)]; and 
  • TxEVER Maintenance – user to local administrator ratio of 20%.

The Hays County Clerk’s Office was then recognized by Hays County Commissioners Court on February 14, 2023, for earning the Five Star Exemplary Award. This marks the fifth time the County Clerk’s Office won the Five Star Exemplary or Five Star Award in the last six years. Great job!
