Wayside Drive Closed to Traffic on Sept. 1

Hays County plans to close the low-water crossing on Wayside Drive (County Road 179) at the Blanco River on Tues., September 1 from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. The closure is needed to perform a geotechnical boring of the roadway.

The low-water crossing, also known as “Bendigo Crossing” and “Slime Bridge”, is located several miles west of Wimberley near the Hays/Comal county line. Data and samples from the geotechnical test will be used by engineers working on behalf of Hays County to make recommendations to eliminate the slime and improve safety at the crossing.

During the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. that day, the gates on Wayside Drive on both sides of the river will be closed. Motorists are advised to seek alternative routes. Note, it is illegal to go around roadway barriers.
