Work Begins on Cotton Gin Rd., Detour in Place

Hays County’s Transportation Department will begin work on Cotton Gin Rd. on November 3 under Phase I of the project. Transportation Director Jerry Borcherding said the work involves reconstructing the existing roadway along the current alignment, both horizontally and vertically.

“We will have one 11-ft. travel lane in each direction and 4-ft. wide paved shoulders on both sides of the roadway,” he said. “The work also includes drainage improvements.”

Additionally, he said all driveways along the road will be repaved within the right-of-way.

Borcherding said the Cotton Gin Road reconstruction is split into two phases:

Phase 1: From Goforth Road to Bonanza Street
Phase 2: From Bonanza Street to Camino Real

Traffic will be detoured around the work zone as follows (see map for visual):

Phase 1: The north half of Cotton Gin Rd. will be closed and under construction, leaving the existing south lane open. This allows traffic to flow clockwise using Dairy lane, Bunton Lane, and Goforth Road.

Phase 2: The south half of the road will be closed and under construction, leaving the completed north lane open. This allows traffic to flow counterclockwise using Goforth Road, Bunton Lane, and Dairy Road.

Borcherding said the full road reconstruction is estimated to be complete by the end of September 2021.
